ISSUE NO.9
THE SAMEER PROJECT
With the ongoing genocide, it can be bewildering to know where to donate, so we wanted to focus this issue on just one organisation that we really believe in. The Lemming is donating £1 of every No.9 issue sold to The Sameer Project and you can follow this up with donations of your own. They are in collaboration with Translating Falasteen and are purchasing all aid from local markets, meaning it does not have to cross borders.

The Sameer Project are a Palestinian-run donations-based aid organisation led by four Palestinians in the diaspora, currently fundraising for a tent encampment that will provide shelter and specific support to families in Gaza. The Refaat Alareer Camp will serve perinatal and neonatal females, children with physical or mental disabilities, and families with adults with special needs and mobility issues. This first encampment will house 60 families and have
specialised medical facilities, clean water, and places for children to receive trauma therapy. They have secured the land and will hopefully be completing the first phase in the coming weeks.
Additionally, they also supply tents, milk, nappies, food and medical supplies to displaced families in South, Central and North Gaza, having just hit the milestone of having delivered 1 million litres of fresh water. They give cash envelopes on an “as needed” basis to allow families the independence to secure the specific aid they require
for themselves.
Some figures so far:
59 community kitchens organized
6703 families fed (since mid June)
819 children treated
6 Free Medical Treatment Days organised in Gaza
Around 30,000 USD in cash aid
2330 packs of diapers and 629 tins of baby formula distributed in displacement schools, camps, and to select families in need.
1 million litres of fresh water
Having had their fundraising pages shut down by GoFundMe as part of GFM’s continued assault on pages raising humanitarian aid in Gaza, they are desperately in need of recouping some of these donations. GFM has shut down the pages of multiple pro-Palestinian causes, placing additional ‘compliance measures’ on people in Palestine, stranding them without access to their funds, and is currently refusing to release $250,000 belonging to The Sameer Project which has crippled their ability to function. They are currently taking donations through Chuffed.
